Propagating for 2003

Have your speakers on for these pages!

For the past three years we have been dogged by an old Powrmatic air heater in the propagating house which was long past its useful life and had to be revivified with a botched up oil burner sold to us when we were in a crisis three years ago. Finally the crunch came this October when the ensemble would not respond at all. So here is the brand new Powrmatic heater. Fine.
It went OK for the first few days and then began going to ‘lock out’ every few hours, waking the monks up and surprising them with its obstinacy. However, it is now ‘fixed’ and giving yeoman service when the temperature outside has plummeted to zero during the past three days. And while we are shivering in our barn at barely 10.5 degrees C with the monastery boiler going full blast, the tomato plants are enjoying 22 degrees C.
As you see from the pictures(with the colours affected a bit by the supplementary lighting) they are prospering and should be ready to plant in the troughs in the main glasshouse on December 20th. Then we shall be able to have a quiet and peaceful time over Christmas. (The main glasshouse boiler was renewed two years ago and hopefully - Shh!!! - goes without a sqeak).
Thank you for looking up our site. Have a good Christmas season. With our best wishes to you all.
